France’s Top Five Campsites

Camping is an activity that’s never going to lose its appeal, as long as there are star-studded skies to gaze at during the night, and as long as we all have that burning desire to flee the city once a year to have some fun in the outdoors.

France has long been a favourite for British families looking for the perfect camping getaway. Of all the camp sites in France, though, which do you choose? It’s really all down to your own personal tastes and preferences. We’ve selected five campsites that we think are absolutely amazing, and that you should definitely have a look at before you pack up your camping gear.

Chamonix city

Château de l’Epervière, Gigny-sur-Saône, Burgundy

Situated in the heart of Burgundy, this relaxed woodland site has an impressive 16th century château as its focal point. An excellent location for walkers and cyclists, it also has access to a nearby river – a welcome feature for keen fishermen.

If you are looking for a holiday sanctuary, this is the place to be. De-stress in the site’s Jacuzzi and pools or enjoy wine tasting sessions in the château’s bar and restaurant.

Yelloh! Village La Petit Camargue

Located in the Camargue area, this is a small campsite that’s aimed specifically at families. What you get up to there will probably be a part of a packaged entertainment programme, guaranteed to keep the kids busy while you relax.

Kids will go crazy for all the animals to be found there, including horses and flamingos!

Camping le Vieux Port, Messanges

Situated in South West France, Camping le Vieux Port is the perfect destination for those seeking a lively, bustling break away. Set in a stunning pine forest, this campsite has a fantastic pool complex with indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides, a Jacuzzi and wave pool.

Entertainment seekers will love the on-site restaurant and popular bar hosting live music, cabaret and theme nights to keep you captivated during your stay.

Camping La Garangeoire, St. Julien-des-Landes, Vendée

Vendée is probably the best area in France to take your family on holiday for a camping trip. It’s very quiet and tranquil, tucked away from all the hectic noise and bustle of the ports. However, it’s not isolated either, being situated close to some amazing local attractions.

These attractions include stunning nearby beaches, historical theme parks and an abundance of lakes, meadows and other beautiful country landscapes. The kids will never forget this trip!

Le Chateau des Marais, Chambord, Loire Valley

This campsite is also highly suited for kids – particularly the kind of kids that you have to drag away from video games and computers. It’s a rural-style campsite that is located nearby Chateau de Chambord.

It has a water park, a mini-golf course and a tennis court. There are ready-pitched tents and mobile homes for you to stay in, and the kids will be thrilled to sleep in the tree houses available.
