Housing options

Housing in Cambodia is quite cheap compared to the prices that you can see in the west. However, the housing expense will still be one of your biggest expenses. Buying a property in Cambodia is still expensive, but renting prices has been better throughout the years for both apartments and houses.

House Rentals

If you’re looking for a house for rent in Cambodia, you can start for at least $500 per month. This budget includes almost everything that you need, including rooms and baths. A $1,000 budget will already give you chances for villas packaged with a swimming pool. For budgets above that, you will have access to luxurious villas and houses. Take note that if you like more customized furnishings, ditch the furnished options and take unfurnished houses instead.

Apartment Rentals

When it comes to apartment rentals, you can easily get your bedroom and bathroom for as low as $500 to $3,000 per month. This also includes cleaning services, a 24-hour apartment guard, and a decent pool. If you like to cut down on expenses, you can also opt for a more local way of living, which can cost you under $300. It depends on what kind of lifestyle you have and how much you want to spend.

The best areas with best prices

Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is one of the most popular options due to it being the capital of the country. It also received more developments and changes throughout the years, compared to its neighboring cities. The Russian Market is very popular for ex-pats. Pretty much everything that you would ever need would be in this city, but it can get overcrowded sometimes.

Siem Reap

Siem Reap just caught up in the development race, which means that there might be some establishments and conveniences that you might miss while living here. This city is known for its low commodity prices and even in real estate. Take note that if you’re testing the waters in Siem Reap, getting hotel accommodation is a better option as short-term apartment stays tend to be two times more expensive.

Sihanoukville

Although not as developed as Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville is still a great destination for ex-pats who like to live near a coastal area. It’s still one of the best options for people who want to own cheap properties. Development is on-going, with more and more people coming to the area to live there. However, other facilities and convenient stores might not be as diverse compared to both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
